Robert Highsmith

is currently a signature member of the American Watercolor Society with memberships in the National Watercolor Society, the South Carolina Watercolor Society and the New Mexico Watercolor Society.  his work is represented by galleries in Las Cruces, NM, Taos, NM, Santa Fe, NM, Albuquerque, NM, Blufton, SC and Simsbury, CT.

Though he paints a variety of subjects, Robert has a primary interest in landscape.  Working mostly in watercolor, he depicts the simplicity of nature –usually with strong and often stark contrasts.  His paintings make simple statements that capture the light of New Mexico's life and landscape, the quiet moods of the low country marshes and shorelines and landscapes of New England.

Robert Highsmith moved to Las Cruces, NM in 2003 with his wife, Joni, son, Dylan and daughter, Leslie.
